The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior CDM Principal Designer to take on a stand-alone role within the consultancy. Working closely with the Building Surveying and Project Management teams, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 regulations, providing expert health and safety advice, and embedding design risk management across projects.
This is a client-facing role that requires technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to operate independently while contributing to wider team success.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Principal Designer under CDM 2015, leading health and safety coordination across multiple projects.
- Provide expert guidance on risk management and compliance throughout design and construction stages.
- Carry out pre-construction phase plans, hazard identification, and risk elimination/reduction strategies.
- Work collaboratively with building surveyors, project managers, and external stakeholders.
- Undertake site visits across industrial, logistics, and commercial projects, ensuring robust health and safety practices are in place.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, best practice, and industry developments.
- Contribute to the consultancy's growth by delivering a consistently high-quality service and building strong client relationships.
- Minimum 3+ years' experience in a Principal Designer role (consultancy background preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and wider health & safety legislation.
- Demonstrable experience across industrial, logistics, and/or commercial projects.
- Able to work autonomously in a stand-alone role, whilst contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and client-facing skills.
- Full UK driving licence is essential, with flexibility to travel.
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent).
- Membership of APS (Association for Project Safety) desirable.
- Degree/HNC in a construction-related discipline advantageous.
