Role Overview
The Senior Cost Manager will play a key role in delivering cost management services across a varied portfolio of projects from early feasibility through to final account. The role requires a confident professional capable of leading cost functions, managing client relationships and supporting the development of junior team members, while contributing to the continued growth of the cost management discipline within the business.
Key Responsibilities
Cost & Commercial Management
Deliver full pre- and post-contract cost management services across multiple projects.
Prepare feasibility studies, cost plans, budgets, estimates and financial forecasts.
Provide commercial advice including value engineering, cost benchmarking and risk management.
Develop and manage procurement strategies and lead tendering processes, including analysis and recommendations.
Contract & Change Management
Administer construction contracts and manage change control procedures.
Assess contractor valuations, certify interim payments and agree final accounts.
Monitor cashflow, cost variance and commercial risk throughout project delivery.
Advise on contractual and commercial matters to protect client interests.
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
Produce clear and accurate cost reports and financial updates for clients and stakeholders.
Act as the primary point of contact for all cost-related matters on allocated projects.
Collaborate closely with project managers, design teams and contractors to support successful delivery.
Leadership & Team Development
Support, mentor and guide junior cost managers and assistants.
Contribute to technical excellence, best practice and continuous improvement within the team.
Assist with business development activities, client engagement and repeat work generation.
Quality & Governance
Ensure compliance with internal quality systems and professional standards.
Promote consistent, high-quality cost management outputs across all projects.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or a related discipline.
Significant experience in a consultancy-based cost management role.
Strong technical knowledge of cost planning, procurement, contract administration and reporting.
Experience working with standard forms of contract such as NEC and/or JCT.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects independently and proactively.
Desirable
Chartered or working towards Chartered status (MRICS).
Experience across a range of sectors including commercial, residential or cultural projects.
Proficiency in cost management software and Microsoft Office applications.
