Our client is a specialist consultancy operating at the forefront of building safety, fire engineering and regulatory compliance. Established in the UK and trusted by major developers, architects and contractors, they deliver fire safety strategy, design input, compliance advice and risk-assessments across residential, commercial, industrial and public sector clients. Their reputation is built on technical depth, responsive service and driving safe outcomes in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.
They are now offering a remote-first role, with a 9-day fortnight working arrangement, to support their expanding fire safety practice and serve a growing national client base.
Role Overview
We are recruiting on behalf of the business for a Fire Risk Assessor who will join their fire safety team. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality fire risk assessments and advisory support, liaising with clients, site teams and internal stakeholders to ensure fire safety compliance and best-practice mitigation. This role is fully remote (UK-wide) and benefits from a 9-day fortnight working schedule, giving enhanced work-life flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct desktop reviews and on-site inspections across a diverse portfolio of properties (residential blocks, offices, retail units, warehouses, care homes etc).
Prepare clear, technically robust fire risk assessment reports: hazard identification, risk evaluation, remediation recommendations, prioritisation, and implementation plans.
Provide advice to duty-holders, building managers, contractors and other stakeholders on corrective actions, fire safety maintenance regimes and external wall systems (EWS) issues.
Engage professionally with clients and stakeholders, conveying technical findings in a practical, understandable manner.
Remain up to date with UK fire safety regulations, guidance (such as the Fire Safety Order, Building Safety Act, British Standards) and ensure assessments reflect current best practice.
Support internal fire engineering and compliance teams: escalate complex issues, share insights and contribute to internal knowledge-resources.
Monitor and follow up on remediation progress, conduct status reviews, and update clients on risk-reduction outcomes.
Assist with other fire-safety deliverables when required (e.g., training sessions, policy reviews, fire safety design input).
Contribute to continuous improvement of tools, templates, checklists and processes within the team.
Candidate Profile & Requirements
Essential:
Proven experience delivering fire risk assessments in the UK context (residential, commercial or mixed-use property types).
Strong technical knowledge of UK fire safety legislation and guidance (e.g., Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, Building Safety Act, associated British Standards).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify technical matters for non-technical audiences.
Self-motivated, organised, able to manage remote working, varied client demands and deadlines.
Proficient in MS Office and comfortable adopting cloud-based workflow/reporting platforms.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites when required (expenses reimbursed).
Desirable:
Formal qualification(s) in fire safety, fire engineering, or related subject (e.g., NEBOSH Fire certificate, IFE membership, BSc/MSc in fire/structural engineering).
Experience of external wall system (EWS) or compartmentation audits; familiarity with high-rise residential fire-risk assessments.
Exposure to fire-engineering design review, modelling or consultancy environment.
Experience in a consultancy environment, contributing to proposals or business development.
Membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g., Institution of Fire Engineers, Fire Industry Association).
Working Pattern & Benefits
Fully remote UK-based role – no fixed office location required, though occasional site visits may be necessary.
9-Day Fortnight: Work your contracted hours across nine days instead of ten, giving you every other Friday off (or equivalent arrangement) to boost flexibility and work-life balance.
Competitive salary aligned with experience, plus bonus or profit-share (depending on company policy).
Support for professional development: training, membership subscriptions, CPD, mentoring from senior fire engineers.
Equipment provided: laptop, required software licences, communication tools, and mobile allowance if required.
Travel expenses reimbursed for necessary site visits.
Pension scheme, generous holiday allowance (e.g., 25+ days plus bank holidays, pro rata), and other benefits as per company package.
