The Director of Fire Engineering will establish and lead a new fire‑engineering service line within the consultancy. This strategic hire offers the opportunity to build a team, shape service delivery, and drive commercial growth. You will work closely with surveying, façade and cost management teams to deliver integrated fire‑risk strategy across high‑risk residential, student accommodation, mixed‑use and other sectors.

They deliver end‑to‑end advisory and project‑led services throughout a building’s life cycle, including façade and cladding assessment, remediation, building surveying, project management, cost planning, and fire safety advisory services. With a seasoned in‑house façade team and extensive experience in EWS1, PAS 9980 assessments and compartmentation reviews, the firm is a recognised national leader in fire‑safety advisory and façade remediation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a dedicated fire engineering team, hiring and mentoring engineers and technicians.

  • Develop and expand a national service line specialising in fire strategies, FRAEW (fire risk assessments for existing buildings), design reviews, and fire risk assessments.

  • Deliver technical fire models using leading software (e.g. computational fluid dynamics, evacuation modelling).

  • Advise on fire safety aspects of façade remediation and internal compartmentation.

  • Collaborate with project, façade and cost consultants on cross-disciplinary projects.

  • Drive business development, identifying new clients, winning project mandates, and supporting proposals.

  • Ensure technical outputs are compliant with UK regulations and industry best practice (BS, PAS, national guidance).

  • Represent the consultancy in client and industry forums, presentations, conferences and accreditation bodies.

Person SpecificationEssential:

  • Chartered or equivalent qualified Fire Engineer with significant experience at senior or director level.

  • Extensive experience leading teams or multi‑disciplinary delivery across fire safety, FRAEW, compartmentation or façade projects.

  • Proven track record in business development and commercial leadership—scaling services, winning new clients and projects.

  • Strong technical capability in fire strategy, risk modelling, design review and regulatory compliance.

  • Excellent communication skills—confident liaising at board & client level, with ability to present complex fire‑safety solutions.

Desirable:

  • Experience in sectors such as build‑to‑rent, student housing, mixed‑use residential, heritage or healthcare.

  • Familiarity with façade engineering and remediation projects, including EWS1 and PAS 9980 protocols.

  • Chartered status (e.g. IFE, CEng) and involvement in professional forums.
