Our client is a leading national property and construction consultancy delivering expert services across the full property cycle from acquisition, through occupancy and asset management, to disposal. With a reputation for technical excellence and pragmatic, commercially-astute advice, their team spans surveying, project management, building pathology, fire & life-safety, and more. They are now looking to strengthen their presence in the South region by appointing an Associate Building Surveyor to join their growing team.
The Role
As Associate Building Surveyor covering the South region (home-based), you will be responsible for delivering high-quality building surveying advice and solutions to clients, operating with a high degree of autonomy. You will be based remotely but will travel to client sites across the South region (including but not limited to Greater London, South East, and South West) as required. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across the national Building Surveying practice to deliver technically rigorous, commercially-focused services.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct building condition and defect surveys, measured surveys, and technical due-diligence inspections across a range of property types.
- Prepare clear, concise, and technically sound reports, schedules of condition, dilapidation schedules (landlord & tenant), liability advice, and repair recommendations.
- Advise clients on repair and maintenance strategies, life-cycle costings, refurbishment requirements, and risk mitigation.
- Manage projects and work packages from instruction through to completion: client liaison, brief development, procurement, contractor management, and certification.
- Interpret lease obligations, statutory compliance (including CDM and Building Regulations), and landlord/tenant responsibilities to inform remedial strategies and cost advice.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and identifying opportunities to extend services.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the national business to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality outputs.
- Mentor junior team members, reviewing work and supporting their professional development.
- Represent the company externally, participating in business development, presentations, and proposals as required.
What We’re Looking For
- Professionally qualified surveyor (MRICS or working towards) with a strong background in building surveying, ideally within a consultancy environment.
- Experience working across the South region (or willingness to travel as needed), with a full UK driving licence and the ability to work flexibly.
- Strong technical ability: defect diagnosis, condition surveys, refurbishment/maintenance strategies, and dilapidations advice.
- Commercial awareness: ability to assess risk, value, and deliver pragmatic advice to asset owners and occupiers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills: able to produce high-quality reports and convey technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Self-motivated and disciplined with strong remote-working and time-management skills.
- Proficient with IT systems and reporting tools, including MS Office and mobile inspection software.
- Client-focused, with the ability to develop relationships and contribute to business growth.
What’s On Offer
- A compelling opportunity to join a national building surveying practice offering autonomy, variety, and regional responsibility.
- Home-based working with travel across the South region, supported by a strong national team.
- Competitive salary and benefits package, including performance-related incentives.
- Career progression to Senior Associate or Associate Director as the business continues to expand.
- Comprehensive professional development support, including CPD and MRICS mentorship (if applicable).
- Flexible working model that supports work-life balance.
