CDM/Principle Designers

A CDM/Principal Designer is the dutyholder appointed by the client on projects involving more than one contractor to lead the pre-construction phase. They plan, manage, monitor and coordinate the design so health, safety and buildability are embedded from the outset; collate and share pre-construction information; ensure designers eliminate, reduce or control foreseeable risks; and liaise closely with the Principal Contractor as the design develops. They also ensure a suitable Health & Safety File is prepared and handed to the client at completion—supporting safer construction, use and maintenance of the finished asset.
